Hobbit Tour

Only 1.5 hours drive from Dunedin is one of the filming sites for the first Hobbit movie "An Unexpected Journey".

Set in the hills near beautiful Middlemarch is the rugged rocky terrain which was the setting for an exciting chase scene. Orcs on Wargs pursue the brown wizard Radagast on his sled drawn by Rhosgobel rabbits. Meanwhile Thorin Oakenshield, his band of dwarves and Gandalf the Grey make a dash for safety. The rocky outcrops provide some shelter for Thorin and his crew, however one Orc picks up their scent. Riding his terrifying Warg the Orc mounts the huge rock they are taking cover behind. Watch the clip below to see what happens.
